Caroline Fulton grew up in Edinburgh and went on to study Fine Art at Newcastle University with a sell-out graduation show of her rhino drawings in 2004. She was subsequently invited to show her work at a Selected Graduates Exhibition of the most outstanding emerging artists from Scotland and the North East.
Following six months working in an orphanage in Uttaranchal, her work was inspired by the tigers and elephants of India. Since 2007 she has lived in Essaouira on the west coast of Morocco, where she turned her attention to the camels and donkeys which roam the streets within the medina and her paintings express the uncertain condition of these animals within the aesthetics of a human environment.
Most recently she completed a series of animal watercolours, drawings and ink paintings which focussed on portraying animals endangered by loss of habitat, depicted against an abstract patchwork of African colours and traditional cloth patterns.
Caroline’s work has been widely exhibited in London, Oxford, Bristol, Nottingham, Newcastle and Edinburgh and three pieces are currently short-listed for the final selection of this year’s BBC Wildlife Artist.
